Hallowed Be Thy Name

In the prayer modeled for us by our LORD Jesus Christ, LORD Jesus tells us “Hallowed be Thy Name”.

What does it mean to hallow the Name of GOD?

The word used for “hallowed” here means: to make holy, to purify, to consecrate, to venerate.

The word used for “name” here means: name (literally or figuratively), (authority, character).

It is clear that Almighty GOD’s Name IS already holy. Here we LORD Jesus is talking about how we view and reverence Almighty GOD our Father, and how we view and speak concerning His Name, His authority, and His Character; and that we make holy and purify the way we do so, that we set apart the Name(s) of GOD above all others and treat the Name(s) of GOD with the utmost respect. In short, we are to give thanksgiving, praise, and worship to Almighty GOD according to His Name(s) and Character revealed to us in Holy Scripture and what they reveal to us about Him.

In order to do this, we must learn the Names, character, and authority of Almighty GOD.

Why should we do this? Besides the fact that HE IS Almighty GOD, Psalm 91:14-16 tells us:

Psalms 91:14-16 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. (15) He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. (16) With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. (Bold emphasis added.)(KJV)
