Today was a somewhat laid back day for me. I confess I did not go for a walk. I did however gather with the saints at Bethel Valparaiso. Associate Pastor Nicole was teaching on joy; a subject that I think gets overlooked quite a bit in the general Body of Christ.
We must remember that “the Kingdom of GOD is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.” (Rom.14:17) One third of this description/definition of the Kingdom of GOD is joy. We should also remember that “the joy of the LORD is our strength”. (Neh. 8:10) So much so that our LORD Jesus Christ endured His suffering (which should have been our suffering) and the cross (which should have been our cross) for “the joy that was laid before Him.” (Heb. 12:2)
Though joy entails feelings of happiness and gladness, the best joy is part of the fruit of Holy Spirit. (Gal. 5:22) To walk in joy, or to live in joy, is a choice we all must make for ourselves. When we choose joy as the fruit of Holy Spirit we also choose to live in grace and ask Abba Father to help us walk in the joy of His Holy Spirit, thus we are choosing to receive His Grace to walk and live in His Kingdom according to His Kingdom Way.
Think about this for a moment when it comes to our witness to the world. Do people really want to follow people who are up tight, depressed, or always watching out because they have a warped sense of Who GOD IS and think He is looking for any reason to squash them? Or do people want to follow those who believe the joy of the LORD is their strength and are walking around full of the joy of the LORD? Who would you want to follow?
This evening I found out my appetite is back in full. My wife made me 4 small beef fajitas, and then had enough left to make one more and asked me if I would finish it off for her. I did. My appetite is back in full. Now I need to be aware of gluttony trying to worm its way back in to my life, including finishing off “just this little bit left over” when I am already comfortable with what I have eaten. Going back to being as overweight as I was is NOT something I want to do again. In fact, I really want to get down to a healthy 215-225 pounds of solidly healthy body. Going into the winter may make this a bit difficult, however, I am sure that by GOD’s Grace I will find a way.
Be blessed! Thank you for reading my blog today.
