Daily Recitations: Getting More Faith

Most Christians know faith is important, though it seems many of us do not understand the difference between mental assent and faith. With mental assent, we simply agree in our minds that something makes sense or is true. However, faith requires that we actually believe it is true; believe it (be thoroughly convinced) to the point we live according to the WORD Of GOD.

Hebrews 11:1-3 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report. 3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Faith exists at this moment as the essence (assurance) of things joyfully expected, the proof of things not seen with our physical eyes. If we could always see things with our physical eyes it would no longer take faith. Our actions give proof of the that which we claim to believe; evidence of our faith.

Let’s look at Hebrews 11:3 just a little closer. The worlds (the eons, the ages) were framed by the spoken Living WORD of GOD, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. What were they made of? The spoken Living WORD (RHEMA) of GOD. Why did GOD speak things–i.e. time, space, matter–into existence? Because GOD has faith in His WORD. GOD believes His WORD, when spoken, will come to pass.

Isaiah recorded the revelation of this:

Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Almighty GOD has such complete faith in His WORD that even when nothing could be seen in the natural, He spoke His WORD, and His WORD came to pass.

Almighty GOD created us to be exactly like Him; to believe just as He believes.

Genesis 1:26-27 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

As “Christians” we need to understand the importance of this faith.

Habakkuk 2:4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Galatians 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

Hebrews 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

As we see, those who are just (justified by grace through faith in the LORD Jesus Christ, who are counted by Almighty GOD as innocent and holy [set apart unto Almighty GOD as His Possessions, His Children]) SHALL live (shall exist, shall continue in this life) by faith.

It is often said, mainly as an excuse, “GOD’s Thoughts are higher than our thoughts,” and “GOD’s Ways are higher than our ways,” and “GOD works in mysterious ways.” Yet, if we would actually take Almighty GOD at His WORD, by faith His Ways would become our Ways, because we would actually believe GOD’s Thoughts and Ways and live accordingly; we would repent and pursue the Thoughts and Ways of Almighty GOD as recorded in His WORD and follow the leading of Holy Spirit into all Truth and Life instead of continually making excuses for our failures and whining about it like spoiled little brats.

So important is doing so that the WORD Of GOD records:

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

It is absolutely impossible to please GOD without faith. It seems to me that having faith, actually being convinced that GOD IS and His WORD IS TRUTH is of extremely vital importance.

So, how then do we get this kind of faith?

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

To start everyone out, GOD has given each one of us the “measure” of faith. How much that measure is in quantity is unspecified, but being it is a gift from GOD according to His Grace, it would be enough to have faith (to believe) on the LORD Jesus Christ for the initial obtaining of salvation by grace through faith in our LORD Jesus Christ.

In order to obtain more faith, we must consider Romans 10:17.

Roman 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

In order to obtain more faith we must hear the WORD Of GOD; and in setting our hearts and minds upon understanding the WORD Of GOD while we are physically hearing the WORD Of GOD we will begin to hear the WORD Of GOD with our ‘spiritual’ ears. Thus upon physically hearing the WORD Of GOD, we will spiritually hear (understand) the WORD Of GOD.

Matthew 11:15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Matthew 13:9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Mark 4:9 And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the WORD Of GOD. The idea here is to get more faith, both in quantity and quality; so that our faith becomes so abundant, and so unshakable, that we speak and live according to GOD’s WORD, not just according to the parts that seem easy, reachable, or comfortable. Our aim is to live exactly as our LORD Jesus Christ lived on this earth.

NOTE: All Holy Scripture is given in the King James Version, 1769
