Time No Longer Flies

“I can’t believe it’s September already.”

“Where did all the time go?”

“Why does it seem life is just passing me by?”

“Time waits for no one.”

“Gee, how time flies!” (usually exclaimed in exasperation)

I frequently hear people say these things, sometimes several people a day. Running about, all stressed out, thinking only about time, and how it seems to fly by.

I used to think this way, until a couple years ago. Now, it seems time is always moving at exactly the pace it should be, always. No, I don’t always get everything done that I would like to, but I’ve learned that it is okay.

What is my secret? Well, it is really not a secret, and it was written in a letter a couple thousand years ago that is in a Book many people either refuse to read, or sadly, read it refuse to take it seriously; that is, refuse to take it seriously enough to actually consistently live by it. Learning to do so is part of maturing as a son or daughter of our Almighty Abba Father.

The key is simple, maybe not always easy, but simple:

Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

You see, our problem is not the lack of time. Our problem is the lack of peace, and a lack of trusting our Loving Abba Father. When we lack peace, then chaos is given room to infest our lives with worry, concern, and the cares of this world. The god of this world has slyly directed the ways of this world to train us to worry and be anxious about every little thing; what we need to do, what we need to eat, where we need to go, every little thing that can go wrong, what others think, etc. The list is seemingly endless. We must understand, our Abba Father LOVES us, not because of who we are, or how good we are or are not, or for the things we do or do not do. Our Abba Father LOVES us for one simple, unchangeable reason: GOD IS LOVE.

1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Malachi 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

Our Abba Father is not mad at you, ready to condemn you and squash you at any moment. Our Abba Father places such a high value on you, YES, YOU READING THIS RIGHT NOW, and desires so much that you not receive the judgment for your sins that He paid the Most Precious Price so that you would not have to receive judgment, and so that you would no longer have to be imprisoned by the mindset and the ways of this world.

John 3:14-17 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Our Eternally Loving Abba Father sent His Only Son, our LORD Jesus Christ, so that you and I could be free from sin, and free from the chains and traps of this world. LORD Jesus even warned us about the cares of this world.

Mark 4:19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

Luke 8:14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.

This type of care is NOT a loving care, it is an imprisoning care. It is anxiety and restlessness and worry and fear, and it is evil.

So how do we deal with this problem that steals our peace and makes us so anxious and unsettled that time seems to fly away, waiting for no one?

1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

It is simple, all we need do is humble ourselves before Almighty GOD, our Loving Abba Father and give our cares to Him, and keep our mind stayed (fixed) on Him and His Holy WORD.

Philippians 4:6-8 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

To be careful, from the Greek in this context, means to be filled with anxiety; which is rooted in a Greek word that means solicitudei which in turn means “carefulness; concern; anxiety; uneasiness of mind occasioned by the fear of evil or the desire of good.ii This carries with it the idea of being distracted by these things, hence the Apostle Paul’s instruction:

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

In order to meet all these requirements we simply need to fix our minds upon GOD, His WORD, and the things He has already done for us.

To be plain, we are to cast ALL our cares (all the things we are anxious and worry about, the things of this world that distract us from our relationship with our Abba Father) upon our Abba Father because He cares for us (is lovingly and attentively concerned about EVERYTHING in our lives). We are to bring ALL things to Him without hesitation, without worry, without embarrassment, and leave them in His Hands. We are to be thankful that our Abba Father LOVES us so much and so well. We need to trust Him to the point that we refuse to come back and pick these cares up again, taking them out of His Loving Hands, and simply leave them with Him. Then we fix our hearts and minds on our Abba Father, His LOVE for us, and the promises of His WORD toward us, and be thankful; going about life focused upon growing closer to Him.

Remember the promise stated by Isaiah that we started with?

Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

After about 6 months of taking this Holy Scripture, this Holy Promise, to heart, I started noticing how much less stressed I was, how much more peace I had, and that even though I often didn’t get everything done I would have liked, I still had peace. Not long after this I realized, time no longer flies. Time goes at exactly the pace it should, exactly at the pace our Loving Abba Father created it to. Such an amazing Abba Father we have!
